It was non-existent in the 60's, unheard of in the 70's, and now a major phenomenon in the 80's. AIDS was a relatively new virus in the late 80's, and was so rampant that it had even prompted MTV to tone down it's sexual images. That song was deliberately produced to send a message against promiscuity, and ironically Jermaine Stewart has since passed away from AIDS.

Best friends Stacy and Melissa book a stay at a singles health resort in hopes of finding some nice, disease-free men. Casual Sex? It's a sex comedy for women. Not only was this the rare unicorn that showed sex from the women's point of view, the crew was solidly female including the director, both screenwriters, the first assistant director, the steadicam operator, production designers, boom operator, and of course, there were two women as the leads. On the other hand, they only talk to each other about men, so it still doesn't pass the Bechdel test. In , the first murmurs of AIDS emerged, but it was unclear how the disease was contracted and spread.
