Almost every day someone sidles up to me and says - with a sharp intake of breath - "Have you seen Savage Grace? Now I know what they're getting at. It's that sex scene. Obviously a clandestine mother-son relationship is bound to shock, but there's something about the way Tom Kalin shoots the brutal coupling between Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne that's just toxic. You're appalled and aroused and, yes, pretty feverish.

The content of the movie is shocking. The audience is exposed to homosexual activity, sexual promiscuity, excessive nudity, and graphic adultery between Barbara and Tony. The story is based on the dysfunctional, allegedly incestuous relationship between heiress and socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland and her son, Antony. The film is based on the true story of Barbara Daly Baekeland Moore , her husband Brooks Baekeland Dillane , heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune, and their only child Antony Redmayne , who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The story begins with Antony's birth and follows the family to the time of his arrest for the murder of his mother.
